[pmwiki-devel] Announcing the pmwiki-devel mailing list

As recently discussed on the pmwiki-users mailing list, I've now
created a new "pmwiki-devel" mailing list for advanced discussions
of PmWiki internals and recipe authoring. One can subscribe to
the list via

    http://www.pmichaud.com/mailman/listinfo/pmwiki-devel

The primary purpose of the pmwiki-devel list is to have a place
where people can discuss some of the more "gory" and programming-
specific details of PmWiki and various recipes. This should help
to reduce some of the traffic on pmwiki-users, and avoid making
the pmwiki-users list seem as though one has to be a PHP expert
to participate in the PmWiki community.

I highly recommend subscribing to both pmwiki-users and pmwiki-devel.
Many long-time PmWiki participants will tell you that even briefly
browsing through the "advanced" discussions can be very illuminating
and useful, even if one doesn't understand all of the details or
implications of what is being said.

Undoubtedly people will wonder "Should my post go to
pmwiki-users or to pmwiki-devel?" Here are some guidelines:

  - If the message is primarily about PHP, programming, or
detailed PmWiki/recipe internals, pmwiki-devel is probably
    the better choice.

  - It's always okay to send a message at any level to pmwiki-users,
so when in doubt, send the message to pmwiki-users.

  - Don't cross-post a message to both lists... pick one or the other.
(Most people who are likely to respond will be on both lists anyway.)

Again, the point of having two lists is not to partition our
discussions, but simply to allow better targeting of messages
and audiences (and the boundaries may be fuzzy as needed).

Questions and comments welcomed as always.
