Page variables are processed in the markup table before the markup
expressions, so while you can set a FmtPV in a markup expression, it
will be too late in the markup table to affect the page display.

Not saying there's not a way to do it--just that this is probably the
problem you are having.  One solution might be to define a second
markup definition of some sort that occurs after markup expressions
that could then be substituted  the new values, but I'm just thinking
out loud...  No specific suggestions...
