Patrick,

I am using your neat AbcMusic recipe:

http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/Cookbook/AbcMusic

(which by the way is not mentioned anywhere on the
Cookbook page, is there a conscious reason for that?)

I have noticed that it can't display more than one
page on the wiki using the gif. The ps file seems to
handle it fine. I am guessing that 'ppm2gif' can only
handle one page. I have hacked it to use the
-sOutputFile=<name>%d.ppm option of 'gs' and then loop
over each file manually to translate each page to a
gif. This works, but I run into the problem that now
each page looks like a full page no matter how much
content is on it. I am guessing that this is simply
the way that 'gs' works, but I was wondering if you
had any thoughts on how to improve this? (the 'gs' man
page seems rather limited on options)

Also, how do you feel about extending the recipe to
handle more music markup formats? I would contribute
to this, of course, I already have abctab (from
abctab2ps) working, it is nice since it handles guitar
tabulation. In general I think that it is appropriate
to have limited functionality in individual recipes,
but since this recipe is actually more of a glue layer
it would seem appropriate to enhance it to handle many
different formats consistently instead of creating new
recipes for each format.

Thanks,

-Martin
