I've just made the pmwiki-0.6.beta1 release for those are interested in
experimenting with the latest versions of the code.

Note that this should be considered a highly experimental release
being made available for review and comment--there are still some
*substantial* changes planned before the official release of 0.6.0.
In particular, I don't recommend upgrading to a beta release on
"production" sites, and I don't recommend building lots of features
and functionality based on anything that exists in the beta release.

The biggest change in 0.6.beta1 over 0.5.27 is new default layout
code which is highly CSS-based. Two layout schemes are included,
the default layout scheme uses XHTML tables and CSS to organize
the page, while the "csslayout.php" script converts the layout to
be entirely CSS-based (no tables). So far the outputs of these scripts
appear to pass HTML and XHTML validation.

PmWiki's original layout scheme is being made available as
scripts/layout-0.5.php for those who may want to upgrade to a 0.6
release but don't want to redesign existing layouts. The layout-0.5.php
script has not been completely vetted for compatibility just yet (this
will occur in a later 0.6.beta release).

The other major change in 0.6.beta1 is that the page revisions output
code has been completely redesigned to be internationalized, customizable,
eliminate the use of tables in the output, and otherwise more consistent
with the structure and formatting of other PmWiki features.

PmWiki 0.6 also standardizes a "pub" directory where files such as images
and CSS files can be stored and made accessible to web browsers.

There are a *lot* more additions and improvements planned for the 0.6
beta release, incorporating many suggestions and comments from the
pmwiki-users mailing list. People who wish to experiment with the
0.6.beta release on the pmichaud.com site may do so at
http://www.pmichaud.com/work/beta/pmwiki.php. All comments and
suggestions are greatly appreciated.
