[Pmwiki-users] cannot set/change passwords (but existing passwords work fine)

I just ran into a weird problem, but I can't tell exactly when the
problem started (I haven't tried to set any passwords since I was using
0.5.x). I attempted to set a password on a page (the first time that
I've tried it with any 0.6.x version), and I cannot. I am prompted for
a password when attempting to visit the xxxx?action=attr page (I enter
the admin password), and the password is accepted. I am presented with
the password entry form, which I then complete. When I click "Submit
Query", the form is cleared, and I remain on the attributes form.

I've tried it with individual pages and also attempted to set group
passwords from the xxxx.GroupAttributes page...all with the same result.
What's really weird is that passwords that were set in the past still
work, I just can't edit or add passwords via ?action=attr. Examining
the raw pages themselves reveals that no changes are ever made to the
files (btw- the owner.group permissions are set correctly on these
files).

Even though I cannot change the passwords on any of these pages (i.e.
xxxx.MyPage, xxxx.HomePage, xxxx.GroupAttributes, etc), I can edit the
content normally using the "Edit" button.

Any ideas?

I'm using Apache 1.3.26 and PHP 4.1.2 (loaded as a module, not cgi).
