To clarify a bit further, I think of fields as being linked not only to
"virtual domains", but also to URL prefixes within the same domain.
I.e., I think it ought to be possible for a single domain (e.g.,
'www.pmichaud.com') to have a wikifarm with multiple fields in the
same domain, distinguished by URL. For example, we could have

   http://www.example.com/~tbl/wiki/Main/HomePage
   http://www.example.com/~marc/wiki/Main/HomePage
   http://www.example.com/~brianb/wiki/Main/HomePage

all of which are separate fields in a common wikifarm.

This is indeed different from the commonly held concept of hierarchical
groups, which to me would be a way of organizing pages within a single
field such that all pages share the same base URL and allow groups to
contain subgroups.
