I've updated http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PITS/00358 to reflect some of 
the issues discussed in this thread.

I've got a feeling that we're a bit too hasty in our discussion right 
now (and I'm guilty of that, too). My impression is that we're not yet 
aware of all design choices that must be made, but trying to discuss 
ready-made proposals already - that's premature.

I've restructured the discussion in PITS00358 to reflect that insight - 
whatever it may be worth ;-)
