This looks like the best to me. I am not a fan of the "leading space [=" 
markup.

How would the following lines be rendered?

[@I hope this monospaced text is left justified.@]
[@       Will this monospaced text be indented
or just the first line?@]
        [@Will this monospaced text be indented
or just the first line?@]
