Eh... isn't that more like "syntax error"?  Either don't make a link 
out of it (consider it something that's incorrectly typed), or simply 
consider it extra whitespace...  Guess the latter is nicer for authors?

Do you mean that the author actually intended to write

    [[This is another long link text \\ -> \
      http://www.pmwiki.org]]

or..?
