At 2006-03-28 05:34 PM +0100, Hans is rumored to have said:
>Why try to differentiate a prompt for someone who has logged in with
>the shared general edit password and for someone who has logged in
>with the general read password, if both haven't got the admin privilege
>of editing the Site group pages?
The logic is predicated on the following scenarios:
For a reader:
Tries to access a page, gets a read prompt.
Tries to edit any page, gets an edit prompt, which he does not possess.
For an author:
Tries to access a page, gets a read prompt. (may choose to enter his
edit password which also allows reading)
Tries to edit any "editable" page, gets an edit prompt. (unless has
already entered edit pw)
Tries to edit pages for which his edit password doesn't work, gets a
prompt asking for an admin password.
The entire client group was mass-mailed the read pw. Only authors who
request or require editing get the edit pw.
It is much cleaner to have password prompts that suit the situation
than trying to explain the above in an email which few will read and
fewer will remember!
