[pmwiki-users] Internationalization issues

Hello,

I noticed too some problems with i18n (-> French) :

- setting in the config.php :
$DefaultGroup = 'Accueil'; # Groupe par défaut
$DefaultName = 'Présentation'; # Page de démarrage
# Is OK to have the groupe 'Accueil' the default group, but not enough to
have its SideBar page the default SideBar.

- setting in the config.php
$SiteGroup = 'Accueil';
# Is not OK (I have now commented it) : we (nearly) never get the right
SideBar

=> What I did :
In many cases in the templates's skins, I replaced SiteGroup by
DefaultGroup.

And all is OK now.
But I don't know if there is a simplest way (and it should be one).

PS : All is OK with the characters I use in page and group names (except
some functionalities of some cookbooks) :
A..Z, a..z, _, -, 0..9, é, è, ê, î, à

Bye

Thierry

I will have a look at the German pages. Are the main contributors
also reading here, or will I need to subscribe also the German
mailing list?

[filenames contain 8 bit characters]

therefore I always tell people: don't use 8 bit characters
(especially Umlauts in Germany), don't use spaces, use only A..Z,
0..9 and underscore.

[which pages go to the i18n distribution]

I'm afraid that there will be always some testing stuff, newbie
errors, maybe also spam. Another advantage of using page text
variables.

There can be more than one flag in the page.

I still think that the translation pages should _contain_ information
about their usage. This would make thinks safer and simpler than a
separate list - that's very inconvenient to maintain.
