This is odd. Both PmWiki 2.1.27 and the latest 2.2.beta have the same
definitions for (:description:) and (:keywords:) directives
(see scripts/stdmarkup.php), so it should really work.

Perhaps check your skin tmpl file, to make sure you got in the <head>
section a
   
tag, the old skins used to have
   
instead. This was changed in version 2.1.16

PmWiki uses  in the template to inject
$HTMLHeaderFmt and $HTMLStylesFmt elements. The (:description:) and
(:keywords:) directives use the former.
