Re search: To search attachments etc you will need an external search engine.
You may find more information here
A couple of basic suggestions which you probably have covered off:
check the Q&A at the bottom of the recipe page.
Check the recipe is installed and their are no page caching issues.
Hi there..

I have a couple issues.. First of all I installed hg.php but I am
unable
to get (:breadcrumb:) to work; it does not render. Is there a trick I
am missing? I included the file in my config.php..

Also, I would like to know if there is a way to have pmwiki search
attachments such as .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc...

Thanks.

Yeah, as usual I didn't read far enough down the comments. I dd make the change suggested and get the hg breadcrumbs to work. however, they were not really what I wanted. What I want is a history of page visits. Is it possible to get this kind of breadcrumb?

Thanks

Please give me an example of a "history of page visits" do you mean a list of the last 'n' pages you viewed?
