This page lists some issues with using pmwiki-mode on various Emacsen.

James McDuffie has told me (btw, EmacsMode should be pmwiki-mode below):

I have gotten it working unde XEmacs on various machines. On Windows I
am using XEmacs 21.4 and it works without any problems. On some Linux
machines I am also using XEmacs 21.4 with EmacsMode without any
problems. However on some Sun machines I tried but failed to get the
mode working with XEmacs 20.4, however that is probably because that
Xemacs install is one built by Sun which lacks necessary things like
"encode-coding-string" compiled in. I was able to get it working up to
that point, before that I had to manually download and include thingapt,
hexl and easy-mmode. However on the same Sun machines, GNU Emacs 21.2.2
works fine with Emacs Mode. On a Mac OS X machine I tried using
EmacsMode using a Fink compiled Xemacs, however there I also ran into
the lack of "encode-coding-string" being built into the binary and I had
to compile my own XEmacs outside of Fink.

So the status seems to be as follows:

<todo: summarize what works and what doesn't...>
