[Pmwiki-users] Image alt text

Thus far it's just a case that we (I) haven't been able to come up
with a good markup for alt text. IMO, it would also be nice if the
same markup could be used for <acronym> and <abbr> text.

The latest thread on this discussion takes place starting around
http://www.pmichaud.com/pipermail/pmwiki-users_pmichaud.com/2004-March/003467.html, for review.

It is indeed a fairly high priority for me -- I just haven't come
up with a solution that was worth committing to.

Some comments on existing suggestions:

[Attach:... | alt text] and [http:... | alt text] have an
unfortunate alias to other wiki systems that use that same syntax
for providing the anchor link text--this is likely to seriously
confuse people who have used other wikis.

Alt text can probably be done with WikiStyles; i.e.,
%alt="alt text"% Attach:...
but for some reason I haven't particularly liked that syntax.

And yes, I am open to suggestions for changing the entire link markup,
although I make no promises that the syntax will change as a result
(and I *do* promise that if the link markup does change, there will
be options available for maintaining backward compatibility with
existing pages and/or to automatically convert existing sites to
the new markup).
