An kludgy way to do this is to open two browsers, FireFox and IE. Firefox 
has a plugin available called something like "open this page in IE". Browse 
to the suspect page in FF. If you don't get a password prompt, the page is 
not protected. If you do get a password prompt, right click on it and 
select "open this page in IE". In IE, enter the password, which will be 
cached. Change password as desired and then switch back to FF to test the 
next page.

Just remember never to enter a PW in FF.
