Well it could be done by skin switching, and creating custom skin
versions for different view modes. This can be done with any skin, not
just Gemini.

With Gemini it is easy to configure the display of action links via
conditional markup, so (:if auth edit:).... can show links when
someone got edit permission, and those links can be hidden otherwise.
So no skin switching is necessary.

With a conditional markup (:if view author:).... the same can be
achieved, and this will not depend on edit permissions given.
So it does not dependent on submitting a password, via a login or
otherwise. It depends on choosing the view mode.
