Marc

In French, the colon (:) and the semicolon (;) always have a non-breaking
space in front of them. In English, there are no spaces. This rule was
designed to make the life of Canadian publishers and typesetters miserable.

I am surprised to hear that an exclamation point (!) and a question mark
(?) are also supposed to be preceded by a space in French. That's a new
rule to me!
