Requirements capture? I'm a user, don't you want to know what I want?
:-)

Here goes...

I would like a hierarchial menu, (preferably collapsable but that's a
different issue), so I can organise my Recipe collection.

I have created a Recipes Group with a homepage called Recipes.Recipes

Top Level would be something like
    *  Bread & Pizza
    *  Soups
    *  Meat
    *  Pasta
    *  Salads

With Meat sub divided into
    *  Chicken
    *  Beef
    *  Pork
    *  Lamb

and so on. Starting at the top, I have a french bread recipe, & I have
inserted  [[!Bread and Pizza]]
It appears in small font, where I type it. (The page on pmWiki mentions
[/!Genre], does the forward slash mean it does not appear?).

If I try to create a recipe category I end up with a page call
Category.Recipes - not Recipes.Category as I expected.
Sorry, that does not read well at *all*.

 From the docs, I thought Category was named after the category, not a
special group. Not that there is anything wrong with a special group,
it just was not what I expected.

If I create a Category.PageFooter, containing (:pagelist
Category.{$Name}:) and open it, I end up with a listing of all groups
and *some* pages, hang on I'll do it now...

Category <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Category> /
    Group Footer <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Category.GroupFooter>
Main <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main> /
    All Recent Changes
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main.AllRecentChanges>
PmWiki <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=PmWiki> /
    Using Categories
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=PmWiki.UsingCategories>

If I open Category.BreadAndPizza, I see:

Category <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Category> /
    Bread and Pizza
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Category.BreadAndPizza>
    Group Footer <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Category.GroupFooter>
    Recent Changes
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Category.RecentChanges>
Main <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main> /
    Active X Scripts
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main.ActiveXScripts>
    All Recent Changes
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main.AllRecentChanges>
    Analyse VSS <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main.AnalyseVSS>
    Backup DTS Packages
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main.BackupDTSPackages>
    Backup Enterprise Manager Settings
    <http://glossopian.co.uk/pmwiki.php?n=Main.BackupEnterpriseManagerSettings>

[snip] and so on for several lines, which looks like a full pagelist.

At this point I get very confused.

The point of categoties is to be able to put 1 page into multiple
catgories, which I think I can see, but the get a list out for 'XYZ'
category is beyond me.

If I have a Chicken Ceaser Recipe, I would catorigise it in Chicken and
Salads ([[!Chicken]] & [[!Salads]]
In Meat I list Categories for Chicken, Beef etc.
There is a Chicken category which looks for Chicken recipes? Pagelist
directive I assume
In Salads, I have a pagelist looking for salad categorised recipes? ditto

The word category as a special group is confusing me, (not hard, I know),
I was expecting somthing like Recipes.Categories. I know I have
completely missed the point here ;-)

Sorry for being so dense, but too much work is making me a dull boy in
more than one sense...

Dave Jackson
