The other organization approach is to just have a page that links to
the various recipes and discusses how to integrate. Personally, I like
the "Pre-packaged Meal," but if anybody sees merit in the second, or
other approaches, please share.

That sounds like each Meal could be nicely constructed as a Category,
with a link to that Meal added to each applicable Recipe.  Then the
Category page could include any discussion of how the parts interact.
Hell, that could even encourage work on interoperability between
different Recipes, organized through the efforts of Meal maintainers on
the Category pages.
