Well, PmWiki doesn't have "syntax errors" -- it just processes valid
markups and hopefully leaves the rest alone.  

I'm only posing the question because \\ is processed by the same
markup rule that handles \, so fixing one necessarily changes the
other.  Also, I hadn't ever considered \ within links, so I was
curious about what \\ "ought to" do.

Perhaps, but it's also a *lot* of extra code to try to properly
detect the case and consider it whitespace, so I'll probably just
let it end up with whatever it ends up with (probably some sort of
bizarre page name).
