Yes, but for me it's also the easy way I could upgrade recipes in an 
installation of pmwiki.

I agree that we don't need branching... but it might be really convenient
to be able to use merging. In my installations I've had to tweak
scripts/trails.php so that it works with teasers. It's *really* nice that 
I can do 'cvs update' without having my tweak just vanish.
