Once upon a time, this was on the
http://pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/WikiTrails page.  You can still see it
on http://pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/WikiTrails?action=diff

The link to the index page can be supressed (if the index page is not
meant to be viewed) by hiding the link within the trail markup using
parens: <<|[[(IndexPage)]]|>>. The resulting trail links will display:
<< TrailPage1 || TrailPage3 >>
