Okay, its finally done and uploaded to the cookbook. Check out

for a recipe that can let you define patterns that get replaced when you
save, as I was talking about on this list some time ago. You can set it
up so that, for instance, \ae is automatically converted to æ on
saving.

You can also set it up to handle acronyms like the old Cookbook-V1
recipe did. Let me know what you think.
