George, I have a strong suspicion that reason for this lies in the
'light' skin you are using. I have not tried to understand light.php,
but it seems it does change quite a few things regards to permissions.

I installed it and can't get the commentbox working, it opens in the
edit window instead of posting!

Please check that the comment posting works if you use a different
skin.
