Okay, that's much better. However, there's something worrying going on.

When a page begins with a heading - line one, position one - say

!!heading

then the following is displayed on the first line of the page 
(PageText), for example:

  (:sectionedit Marc.Notes Marc.Notes:)

This only appears when the user has editing rights.

When there is markup before the heading, all is okay. ToC is also okay 
now.

The worrying thing is that when I insert a blank line before the first 
heading and save, the page displays okay, but on re-opening the page, 
the blank line - i.e. line break - has disappeared and so resaving the 
page reintroduces the message displayed above.

To recreate, create new page containing

! Title

Some text

... and it'll be clear.
