thanks again Petko.  i particularly like the trick of wrapping the [@ 
markup in a >>proportional<< div.  fwiw, you can revert to the normal 
page font with this css:

   div.normal pre { font-family:inherit; }

i also found an example of doing something similar with wikistyles:

   %define=normal block apply=pre font-family=inherit%

this is good for one time proportional pre markup like this:

   %normal%[@
     preset text using normal page font
   @]
