[pmwiki-users] UTF-8 chat!

Okay;

Sorry for the delay; I'm definitely not trying to tease you. I just had to rethink everything ten times to get around the huge holes in the internet caused by the blackouts that are a result of the superstorm in the Northeast of the United States where I am located. Here's the link to my latest statement, concerning this critical matter; please mouseover the "Piero, Piero, here me..." part at the top of the page to read it. http://coll-org-source.us/0-one/pmwiki.php?n=Category.PageLoadingSpeed

Now, I have not tried to convert the attached code to PmWiki markup; that is for someone versed in that language to do. I thought I might use the "convert to html" coding to run it on PmWiki pages, as well; however, that would be like asking people to eat a cheese-food product, instead of real cheese. Nor, have I included styling; though, beautiful things can be done, and I will link to an example, at the bottom of the page.

There are three files, and a styles folder. The first file is index.php, or http://coll-org-source.us/0--/microchat-utf8/index-php.htm

The second file is message.php, or http://coll-org-source.us/0--/microchat-utf8/message-php.htm

The third file is msg.html, and this is a blank data file, unless styled. The zip contains a styled version.

I have also created a chat-clearing file, or http://coll-org-source.us/0--/microchat-utf8/chat-cleared.htm Note: This one should really be password-protected; just so you don't accidentally call on the file, and lose your chat. It will automatically clear any chat; that is, if it is left unlocked and called upon, for any reason.

You may download the whole shebang, including the style folder (just two little files) by clicking here. http://coll-org-source.us/0--/microchat-utf8/micro-chat-utf8.zip

For the example of the chat styled and modified for a specific purpose, click on this link; http://coll-org-source.us/translator/anglo-am-lit/hamlet_files/concord/index1001.php

Again, huge-and-impossible-to-ever-truly-repay-gratitude-and-thanks to Josiah at Oxford for scripting assistance in the "last act." I was able to narrow everything down, and even exclude the huge and impossible to know or change server settings; but, when it came to actually doing the coding, I was at a total loss. Believe it or not, and I'm sure you will, it took me two years to get to this point with this particular script. You may contact Josiah with your own scripting problems through Elance.

If you would like a quick and effective password-protect; just click on this link; http://coll-org-source.us/pfn-2.3.3/accion.php?dir=.%2F0-one%2Fscripts&cal=password-protect.htm&accion=descargar Don't forget to visit the script's site; it's listed at the top of the script.

Take care, and Happy Holidays All;

John

ello, all;
Wanting to share my joy; especially with Stephanie and Petko, who took the time
o respond and interact concerning my last posting. We have now completed an
asy to use UTF-8 chat based upon Microchat. All non-Roman fonts are
nterpreted.
This is the result of my successful collaboration with Josiah at Oxford
niversity, quite possibly facilitated by the good works of my family in London,
articularly my nephew Dr. John Jeans, MD; newly married to Shukri (blessings,
lease).
Hang on (a few hours) while I post it on easy-to-copy html pages; we're in the
iddle of a veritable catastrophe here (please, read the notice I posted on my
ebsite and reproduced below).
Please! Piero, Piero, hear me...
This (actually, my) website is run from Princeton, New Jersey; dead center in
he area stricken by the superstorm. It is no laughing matter; no heat, no light
nd no food. Most people are totally unprepared for this.
The power-outage may go on for a week or longer, in places; while the weather
rows colder, with more stormy weather in the forecast for next week.
Please give us, now; especially to the elderly, your prayers and miracles.

our friend,

ohn

I'm writing a draft for the host support ticket now, complete with temp
accounts on the site. Don't know if it will help them or not.
I'll also take them off the "PmWiki friendly host" page on pmwiki.org,
or at least mention the problem.
Would Clean URLs make a difference? I don't remember which method I used
for them. I have another account with the same host that's still fine,
but doesn't use Clean URLs or farms or subdomains.
this point you might want to just do a quick clean install in a new
rectory, and see what happens. That will at least tell you if it's
Wiki or some cookbooks, etc.

f the problem is mod_security, enabling or disabling CleanUrls will have no
fect, the two are not related.

uccess!
just got a reply from the host:
---------------------
n you please try again? It seems that the issue was caused due to
d_Security. We have disabled it now and we are not getting any 406
ror. Can you please check and confirm from your end?

t's now working fine.
wouldn't have known what to ask them if not for the help from this
oup. It was a real team effort!
Petko -- thanks for the info about CleanURLs. I was worried they'd
end time on one theory, only realize CleanURLs were complicating the

I haven't touched the SideBar in years. I edited several other pages
tonight with no problem.
 Any ideas?
 Thanks,

I would prefer if skins will be shown in the Skins group, even if

 group.
Thanks, this should be mostly fixed now.

 So when is the changeover?
Simon is working hard to review and fix the pages he can, and tells me when
y review is needed. We are not in a hurry, as the old pages are still
perational. I guess for another week or so.
