Thank you, Hans!
It turned out (Hans found it) that the issue was a div not properly
closed, above on the page.
I wrongly "closed" a div with
    >>clear<<
believing that it was a compact way to close a div and clear all at
the same time, sort of a contraction of
    >><<
    [[<<]]
whereas I was actually opening a new div... thus messing up things.
