If not impossible, this would be quite complex to implement and to use.

Wouldn't it be acceptable to open a new window to edit the SideBar, without 
leaving the current page? 

This way, when you finish editing, you can close the SideBar window and go 
back to the previously browsed page. A reload/refresh may be needed to view 
the changes to the sidebar.

You can set your links to open a new window by wrapping them with 
%newwin%...%%, for example:

  %newwin%[[Site.SideBar?action=edit|edit sidebar]]%%
