This can be solved by using a java-applet.
e.g I tried RADUPLOAD Lite (see http://www.radinks.com/). I think it even 
supports drag & drop (only in Win ?) and recursive folder upload (in the 
commercial version)
But this and most other solutions in java are not free software for 
commercial use (some of them are for private use).
