An even better solution IMHO, would be to post a new zip with a
"pub/phpnet/" directory. The reason I think this better is that we could
come up with a set of standards (if they don't exist already) for
cookbook/skin authors to use for creating their zip/tar file that would
simplify installation. For instance, if the rule is _always_ "change to
the pmwiki directory and unzip the file" that makes it easy for everyone
to remember and use.

Here's another idea that just occurred to me but the complexity factor
may be too high: what if there were a special directory in which you
place your tarball or zip file and *pmwiki* unpacks it, tests that all
of the appropriate files are there (e.g., README, INSTALL, MANIFEST),
installs them in a staging area for configuration, and then once
configured, installs it in the proper location. Then the standard
installation procedure is "put your file here, and go to
pmwiki-url-with-appropriate-action"
