I did not think of this. I changed the previous wording to:
  "copy of this page somewhere, preferably as
  [[Profiles.{$Author}-Preferences]],"
to make it more user friendly and give a specific link.
We could change this to [[Profiles.''your name''-Preferences]], but
then it does not work as a link to this new page.
I can't see a way to use conditional markup to bring a link prompt for
users which have $Author set, and those which have not.
I just changed the link to plain text:
   @@Profiles.''%green%insert your name here%%''-Preferences@@
Is this better?
