I have another reason... web pages take forever to load.  I can  
quickly skim through my email inboxes, I can't in ANY way act that  
quickly when dealing with a web forum.

Another is interface lock-in.  In my mail program it's MY mail  
program.  If I don't like it, I can choose another mail program.
