If that is true, then you are just jumping into the can that I opened
earlier when asking for "permanent" WikiWords.

My current workaround is to have an InterMap entry like this:
Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki

with markup like this: Wikipedia:/

so the link URL becomes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Patrick suggested that he might remove the requirement for a non-blank
character after the colon in an InterMap reference, in which case the
InterMap entry would become:
Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

with markup like this: Wikipedia:

and it would be rendered on the page without the colon (just Wikipedia).

The problem is that new authors may not know about or even understand the
reason for a trailing colon. It makes much more sense (to me and them) to
have permanent WikiWords that always form links.

If they were stored in an InterMap-style table, the admin could add them as
necessary and they would probably not proliferate too badly.

If the mappings appeared on a wiki page that users could edit, it would
open a back door to spammers who could define words such as "and" to be
permanent with links to their web stores. They would only need to insert a
single entry to have virtually every page point at their site.

Should this (or has this) become a PITS entry????
